When I bought my 10-acre farm in the picturesque Tennessee foothills, the land was mostly pasture planted in fescue. There were some beautiful, mature trees and a lot of brush on the back of the property near the creek. I have gradually carved out a yard area which is expanding more each year. Last year I bushhogged a path around my property to make a trail and I have been creating different spots to stop and visit on the way. Now my favorite places in the yard are the shade gardens I've created at the base of trees.
This was my first shade garden and remains my favorite. You can't see it in this photo because the statue on the left is blocking it, but there is a hole at the base of the tree that I call my gnome home. It is truly a magickal spot and I sit by this garden a lot.
This was the next shade garden I created. It's a little difficult to see in this photo because it is so dark, but the creek can be seen in the background. I planted the hostas, and Mother Nature planted the rest. It wasn't raining the day I took this photo, and there was no water on the lens, so I like to think that the bubbles are fairies. After all, they don't always look like Tinkerbell! :>)
Fairies figure prominently in my gardens! I just love the splash of color the caladiums provide here!
